Key Characteristics
- Add movement and sound to the garden
- Provide year-round interest, even when dormant
- Most are extremely low maintenance once established
- Range from compact edging plants to tall screening varieties
- Many tolerate drought and poor soil
Design Tips
Plant grasses where they'll catch the light—backlit by morning or evening sun, they glow like nothing else. Use compact varieties as edging or in containers, and let taller types create rhythm when repeated through borders. Leave seedheads standing through winter for frost effects and wildlife value.
