Cyperus alternifolius makes an immediate impression with its parasol-like whorls of slender green bracts held atop tall, triangular stems — a plant that looks as though it has stepped directly out of an Egyptian wall painting. Ideal at the margins of ponds or in water features, it brings vertical rhythm and textural contrast to damp or boggy planting.
