Soapwort
Saponaria officinalis
Soapwort is a cheerful, free-naturalising cottage perennial with clusters of pale pink, sweetly scented flowers that perfume the evening air from midsummer through to autumn, spreading with an easy, unforced charm along borders, banks, and meadow edges. Its running roots are vigorous and best accommodated where it can roam, or in rougher wilder plantings where its informal habit becomes an asset.
