The dense, silver-white mounds of lavender cotton are among the most reliable edging plants for hot, dry schemes — their finely divided aromatic foliage holding its colour and form through the year even under hard clipping. Button-yellow flowers in summer add a warm punctuation to silver and grey borders, though many designers shear them off to preserve the foliage effect.
