Few perennials offer the same effortless abundance as daylilies, whose arching, strap-like foliage forms handsome weed-suppressing mounds topped by a succession of large, trumpet-shaped flowers across an extraordinary range of colours from palest cream through salmon, peach and deep burgundy. Reliably tough and adaptable, they perform well in sun or light shade and are among the most drought-tolerant perennials once established.
