Few shrubs match the vivid scarlet flush of Photinia's new growth, which emerges in bold waves through spring and again in summer against a backdrop of glossy older leaves. It responds well to clipping and works equally well as a formal hedge or a loosely grown specimen at the back of a mixed border.
