One of the finest small trees for a garden that values year-round presence, Persian ironwood earns its keep through every season — tiny crimson flowers on bare branches in late winter, rich green summer foliage, and an autumn display of yellow, orange and scarlet that rivals any maple. The flaking grey and cream bark becomes increasingly ornamental with age.
