That froth of white umbels rising above spring hedgerows carries a romantic, meadow-edge quality that no cultivated plant quite replaces; planted through a border, it creates a gauzy, see-through layer of movement and light. Works brilliantly with alliums and early geraniums as it fades, and self-seeds with useful abandon.
