Aesculus hippocastanum

A magnificent large deciduous tree with bold, palmate leaves and upright candles of white flowers flushed pink and yellow in late spring, followed by the glossy conkers of childhood memory in autumn. Its scale demands a generous setting, but few trees offer such theatrical seasonal progression.
